I am struggling to find information on this bike so my aim is to write a concise, but informative piece to help others looking for information. I have owned and ridden my wave 110i for around a year. | ||||||
The bike came to me with 12,000 miles on it and 2 years old, sadly it was one of the most neglected 2 year old machines I had ever had the displeasure of seeing. I spent a good deal of time and money repairing it and undoing the neglect, but it was cheap so I will not complain too much. The wave 110i is like a modern version of the old Honda C90 with many of the old C90 traits greatly improved. The handling is very good and predictable but the tyres are low profile and every minor bump is felt through the handlebars, although, I have heard the latest models are fitted with higher profile tyres to cure this. The riding position is good, the seat is comfortable for 1-2 hour rides after this the numb bum will kick in for sure. The brakes are very good with a single disc up front and traditional drum rear. Electric and kick start which I think is great as I hate electric start only bikes. The electric starter works well even on cold mornings and so far has never failed to start after the briefest touch on the start button. Fuel injection means no faffing around with the choke and the bike starts and idles well immediately from a cold start. The acceleration is ok for modern traffic and the 4 speed semi auto gearbox is easy to use with crisp positive changes and has a gear position indicator on the well laid out instrument cluster. It also retains the rotary change mechanism so you can go straight from 4th to neutral when stationary at traffic lights etc. but has in inhibitor mechanism to prevent this while there is any forward motion. A genuine 140mpg can be achieved with moderate riding and the bike will achieve an indicated 62mph on level roads. There is an under seat storage area but it is dreadfully small and a decent lock and set of waterproofs will fill it completely. The tank size is dreadful too a claimed 3.5 litres, but I have never been able to put more than 3 litres in with the fuel guage well past the red zone. Granted it is not a touring bike but the constant fill ups are a pain. In my view Honda would be better to double the fuel tank capacity at the expense of reducing the under seat storage. The wheels are cast alloy, but the finish is mat grey making them hard to clean. A gloss finish would make them far easier to clean without specialist cleaning products. The oil capacity is 900cc and I change the oil every 1000 miles, during this time almost no oil is consumed and the method is the same as the old C90 engines. I have changed the cam chain since owning the bike which was a straight forward operation and done without a manual, just lining up the timing marks and removing and refitting the chains. The difficult issue was removing the screws that hold the plastic engine covers together as they were invariably all seized with one needing to be drilled out and replaced, however this could due to its neglect by the previous owner. |
