This is a Harley made for the open road. The Dyna chassis, powerful motor, and well-spaced six speed tranny set the stage for long open road cruising. For relaxed strong all day cruising, you can´t beat a Harley. | ||||||
The biggest fault of this bike is the amount of heat that hits the rider on the right side seat area. Even with the mid-frame air deflector kit, the heat is still a factor. The low seat height is a blessing and a curse. It puts you right on top of the rear cylinder which throws heat at you. That being said, the good points are many. The staggered shorty dual pipes are classic and probably the most beautiful motorcycle exhaust ever designed. Now all new custom Harleys have silly looking systems that depart from this timeless design. The 96 motor has all of the power you´ll ever need, yet Harley keeps on putting out bigger motors, no doubt to encourage trade-in fever. The transmission is great and you won´t kick it into sixth gear until you are moving 55+ mph. You can ride this bike all day and never rev it past 2500 rpm, the torque is strong and always there. Like any Harley, the choices to customize are endless and rather expensive. Anything with the H-D name will cost you, but usually is well made and holds up well. Get rid of the clunky lead-acid battery and put in a Shorai lithium-ion unit. The bike will always start up strongly and never leave you stranded. Some guys get into the Stage kit improvements and I shake my head at these. Why spend thousands of dollars hopping up a big V-twin motor? V-twins are not about horsepower, they are all about low-end torque. This is where real world riding takes place, not screaming a motor up to redline. If you want to go fast, buy a crotch rocket. But for relaxed strong all day cruising, you can´t beat a Harley. |
