Mine did the same thing. Really the best thing to do is too tune the carburator perfectly and I really do mean perfectly. The other thing that helped me achieve full power was new points and condensers. Oh and if you were wondering where I set my carb. On the air it was 2.5 turns out and on the gas it was 1.25 turns. I hope this helps.
