Chic needs help with rusty tank

Could I get some feedback on the rusty gas tank issue? My is, not like chipping rusty, just rust formation from prolonged sitting (5-7 years guessing-bike was tossed out for the garbage man). Got lots of advice-gasonline and bolts-shake and rinse, kit from Honda to clean tank, biodegradeable tank cleaner. One of the two guys who worked on the bike ensures me it is just surface rust, nothing a filter wouldn´t catch. But I´ve spent time and $ to have the carbs rebuilt, new tires, seat will be redone, etc. Any feedback would greatly be appreciated! Happy riding!
