I recently purchase a 72 that had been in storage since 1989, only 1400 miles. I put new carb kits and O rings in the petcock. It also had rust in the gas tank. Not large scalely rust but small area rust. For the tank I put small pea gravel in it with water and shock it a good bit. You can still see some slight rust in the tank. I have put around 2000 miles on it and have not had any problems. This maybe a shade tree mechanic work but it´s doing fine for me.
