I just got my 2001 R1.... I love this bike but if I let go of the bars over 35 for even a second the front end starts to shake. Will a steering dampener straighten this out? Is this normal for this bike? I know that it was picked on in revues and they said it needed a steering dampener but was it because of head shake at speed or is there something wrong with my front end? I have tried changing suspension settings and it did not help. I may try a new front tire (10,000 miles on this one) to see if it straightens this out. Steering dampeners are expensive and I do not want to invest in one if it is not going to solve this issue. I would love to hear from anyone that had this issue and solved it.
