I´m wondering if I´ve got a non-standard swingarm in my 2001 RS Sprint or if anyone else has come across the same problem. The stand chain and sprocket setup (108 link, 17 / 43) seems to take up too much of the adjustment when fitted as new, so much so that i´ve been chopping the chain down to a 106 link. However, when fitting the rear wheel with a new tyre 180 55 17 this weekend, the tyre was fouling the singarm and lower shock mounting, i.e. the tyre was too tall. The chain was still relatively new, so I´v put it down to me reducing it´s length so I´ve overcome the problem by putting a 108 link chain back in. I´m sure there´s something strange about it though. If it´s the standard size tyre, surely it should fit in the swingarm with the axle pushed right forward (i.e. minimal chain wear), but it doesn´t, it hits the swingarm before the axle is at its minimum adjustment. I think I´ve got away with it before because I´ve changed the chain and sprockets when the tyre has had some wear and when I´ve changed the tyre the chain has stretched enough to avoid the problem. So, I´ve only got this tyre in by using a brand new 108 link chain, but only 2 of the 5 adjustment dots on the swinging arm are visible. Have a got a strange setup ? Your thoughts and advice would be most welcome. |
