A Vespa with padding? Well, I dunno. The BMW R1100 RT is a touring/sport bike. You will find very few bikes that are easier to ride. And, you´ll find very few bikes that can keep up with an 1100 RT in the twisties. Period. So, if it looks like a Vespa with padding, understand that it is like a Vespa with padding AND a Saturn V rocket attached. That happens to handle like a sport bike (it´s advanced shock absorption and ABS brakes make it far superior to most other motorcycles), and the bags come off with a simple slick so you can hand them to the bellman. The fairing keeps the wind at bay, but you don´t feel like you´re on a Winnebago - like you would on a Gold Wing or Harley fully-faired bike. The handle grips are heated and the oil-cooler warmth can be routed to your hands and arms in cold weather, so you can actuallt USE the bike as a vehicle. If you don´t like the fairing, get the R1100GS or R1100R or one of the newer R1200 bikes. The fairing is just on the RT package - you can get a big BMW twin without it. But it makes a big difference as far as rider comfort goes, and you still have a hot, race-proven bihe under you that will take to a winding mountain road with ease and blow most of the other bikes away without causing white knuckles. In my book, that´s a hell of a Vespa! |
