Cooling Light

I have a 2006 Honda 750 Shadow Spirit, the temp light is now coming on when I ride but it is very faint. When I stop at lights or in traffic it gets brighter but then dims as i ride faster. It has plenty of coolant and the fan is coming on , but not always on when the light is on. Any ideas?
