gear shift indicator display not working

My father in law has a 1986 suzuki calvacade, his gear shift indicator display has gone blank. Probably an easy fix, just dont know where to look. Any advice on a fuse, or plug somewhere. I am also not sure if anything else is displayed on this display. Any advice would be helpful. Note. I already tried to tell him to just count what geat he is in. At nearly 80 years old, he didnt find it funny. Thanks for any input.
