Voltage Regulator

Saw a post somewhere about converting a Ford mechanical Voltage Regulator to work with the 1972 Yamaha CS5. Mine (VR) appears to be cooked, and the only one I can find is very, very pricey compared to the value of the bike. There must be some way to make some other 3-coil VR work for this. Anyone have assitance/guidance?
