Not the CZ 350 everybody was hoping for when it arrived. |

Back in 1986 we heard in the UK that a new model 12 Volt engined CZ 350 was going to be imported to replace the older 1970´s styled 6 Volt CZ 350-472 bikes. What CZ fans envisaged was a CZ 350 powered by the then new 34 HP @ 6,500 RPM Jawa 350-638 12 Volt engine..... we were disappointed somewhat when the CZ 350-472.6 appeared. It was even slower than the 6 Volt CZ 350-472´s that it superceded, due to the alternator loading and increased weight. The styling was a bit bulbous too. Needless to say CZ fans globally, including myself, did set about crowbarring Jawa 350-638 engines into CZ frames to create the CZ that should have been produced by the factory. I´ve built 2 since 1990 and I´m currently building a CZ 350-638 for someone in my garage at the moment. This is my 3rd conversion of a CZ to this higher specification. Work started with the engine swap in a 1979 CZ 250-471.4 on Saturday 4th April 2020. The engine still has the restricted power output pistons in and the owner of the project wants to experience the bike in restricted form before the pistons are derestricted back to 34 HP spec by widening the skirt openings. Electrics are handled by an aftermarket |
