I`m 38, awaiting my 3rd KTM 600 since my first 600SC -91. That is, I`ll receive my -06 625SXC in a weeks time. I`ve ridden them in Norway, Europe and Africa, and even competed in MX and Enduro/Rallies for a number of years with them. KTM is in my opinion the only rally/race capable bike off the shelf, and is even capable of touring for long distances. When that is said, touring often means longer service intervals and longer running time and more wear on oil and such. My suggestion is therefore to watch the oil and filter change intervals closely, especially if you are running the engine hard. Carrying an extra or cleaning the air filter regularly is also sensible. I`m not familiar with the carburettor, but the old DelOrto`s were notoriously difficult to adjust. Faulty adjustment of one, cost me an engine i Morocco during a rally. The new carburettor is not likely to cause problems, but it is still not the docile Mikunis used on the LC-4. Proper adjustment of the suspension and damping is also in my opinion essential for your riding pleasure, so spend some time doing it. I think the 9ltr tank is ridiculous, but i am certain Acerbics still produce replacements. The CrMoly subframe can also carry side tanks, but I`ve always found them a little cumbersome, and they require extra fuel pumps and everything that goes with it. They are too heavy for the earlier alu sub frames... I have always ridden with the heavy tools either strapped to the frame under the engine, or in a fanny pack. The rest I carry in a narrow back pack. Oil, filters, chain cutter, the spare chain links, strips, spark plugs and medical/emergency kit. I never use carry racks, since they in my opinion severely reduce the handling of the bike. ALLWAYS carry a space blanket or two, and basic medical stuff. Hope this comes through as well ment advice and that this excellent bike gives you much joy. Frank Halvorsen, Oslo, Norway
