It could be your ignition timing; was the engine very hot after and I mean very hot? Did it feel under powered on that run? Have you got fuel flow to the carbs? When you start it, does the engine turn over freely? I doubt if it is a compression problem, not too high anyway. Have you checked your carburettor idle jets? Or had them balanced properly? They could all be factors here.
