I am new to biking and decided to start with a 1986 yamaha radian. Its been great for the last couple of months but has developed a new problem over the last few days. I was away for a couple of weeks, and had left the bike (under its cover) in my drive way. It had rained a lot over those weeks. Anyways, I had trouble getting it started on Friday night, but finally managed to do so, and left it idling for 10 minutes before shutting her off. I left her like that to cool, and on saturday morning was all ready to ride her when these problems started. First the bike wouldn´t start, and then when it did it was doing 3500 rev/min at idling, which was insanely high. I double checked to make sure that the choke wasn´t on. After letting it idle for about 15 min, I turned her off and restarted her to have the same very high revs. I then turned her off, and came back after an hour. This time the bike wouldn´t start period. I then tried to start her up after a couple more hours, and she started but this time two more things happened. Firstly, the bike wouldn´t rev up past 2500 rpm, and the exhausts would make a sputtering sound when I tried to rev it higher. I checked for a vapor pressure lock, by opening up my fuel tank and letting some fresh air in. As a last ditch effort, I used some carbeurettor cleaning fuel (jet fuel) and let the bike run on that. So far it hasnt helped. Any suggestions as to why this might be happening are very welcome.
