I wold first check your oil level. If it is over full you could have a stuck needle valve letting gas in your crank case. I would also open the oil filler cap and see if it smells like gas in the crank case. I put an aftermarket manual petcock on my bike and it worked great until I left it on and drained gas into the crank case. I was ok running it with no problems as long as I turned it off. I finally rebuilt the carbs and fixed the needle valves. I had to flush the crankcase about 2 different times when I forgot to turn the valve off. If you have the stock petcock I would still check all of the above plus check the petcock to make sure it is doing the auto shut off when the engine is killed.
