Unless the tank has rust scales in it or really bad rust, forget the coating for the time being. Go to a Yamaha dealer and purchase a Yamaha tank cleaning kit. You put this stuff in let it sit drain it and put in a neutralizer. It works great and leaves the tank looking bright inside (unless you have BAD rust). Flush it several times with gas to get any left residue out. I went to Auto Zone and purchased a glass fuel filter that is cleanable. You can see the crud in it. When it starts staying clean you can remove the filter if you like. The stock type filters let all kinds of garbage go through. Hope this helps. Ed
