The red light that says red, warns you if your tail light is out. If the blinkers are not hooked up, that could be the problem.

You may want to get a new sensor for the fan, so as to not risk overheating the motor. My fan only comes on on really hot days 38C+ and only when I am at a long stoplight or parking shortly after coming off the freeway to a stoplight. Again, only on really hot days.

You may want to check your coolant level in the radiator and replace the fluid. A good strong cleaning of the fins of the radiator may help as well. A car wash with a good strong water jet could do the job.

If you feel the engine is getting to hot, also make sure the oil levels are correct.

Good Luck!
