Hello Brett, Of course you’re right, using the front brake in a corner is basically a bad idea, but a lot of bikes accept its use without problem unless you slam on the lever. I had a bunch of different bikes before this ST and still have a VFR750 and a BMW1100GS. All of them react differently to the front brake. The VFR accepts light front brake and is really easy. It is suitable for beginners who are looking for a sportier bike before going to big bores (my ex-girlfriend learned a lot on it and she’s now riding my previous bike: Daytona T595!!). With the GS, you can do everything you want; it’s the most forgiving bike I know. It’s possible to enter a corner 20km/h too fast only use the front and compensate with counter steering. I went to the floor once, true, but it was during an advance riding session. The goal was precisely to master the front brake with counter steering when you lean the bike in a corner. As confidence grew, I hit the lever so hard that I blocked the front wheel. My experience showed me that less experienced riders will brake with the front as a reflex if the curve is tighter than expected. My point was just to highlight that, like most of the sportier bikes, the ST will stand up and go straight. Somebody who comes from a real tourer can be surprised by riding a SPORT-tourer instead of a sport-TOURER (like the BMW1200ST for example). What do you think about your bike? It would be interesting to compare our impressions. PS: for the throttle, as I said in the previous message, it may be due to the heated grips (placed at the dealership) and should be easily solved. Léon. |
