Only you can decide what fits you best. You have 5 more inches of height than I do so your experience sitting on a R1150GS Adventure will be different than mine. I am 47 and never owned a motorcycle until May of 2005. I went with the R1150GS Adventure because it was the best bike in the world for me. I wanted something very good (not necessarily outstanding) on the street but still capable off-roading with a full load of gear for "expeditionary travel" in third and fourth world countries. My R1150GS Adventure is AWESOME! I love it and ride it 5 days a week to work. I have ridden it in the dark and in rain to gain experience. Now I have 6,800 miles on it and graduated back to the stock seat instead of the "low" seat. If I were in YOUR position, I would get the new R1200GS Adventure. It has a LOT of upgrades and improvements over the R1150GS Adventure. It is due out in April 2006. If you do a web search there are photos of it leaked from South Africa. It has a bigger windshield, bigger fuel tank, bigger foot rest pegs, is lighter, is faster, has an adjustable seat, etc. The only place I have seen a new R1150GS Adventure is via the Internet in New England. It is called a "special edition." You MIGHT find a R1150GS Adventure left over atplaces like Sal Lake City BMW (they had 12 in Spring 2005) but colors of news ones is "sketchy" becasue many are mixed and matched left overs from the factory in Berlin because only 43 R1150GS Adventures came to the USA for 2005 year. I do like the silver color and teh aluminum panniers better on the R1150GS Adventure over the colors and steel panniers of the R1200GS Adventure. Rumor has it that my R1150GS Adventure can do 80 mph (stock knobby tires) up hill on a paved road with a 100 pound passenger so it is VERY street capable as long as you are NOT racing. the knobby tires also "lean" very well but they wear out from 6-8,000 miles. I hope I have been helpful. If not, you can hardly go wrong with a BMW! I truly love to ride mine. |
