Question - Gear changing in power band

I have recently brought a 2005 KTM from a respected dealer and have had trouble as the bke does not want to change gear when in the power band - Is this a common problem??

I brought the bike two months ago and it is still in the shop, a new selector has been fitted but this does not appear to have helped - is it just me??
