PROBLEM: Switch Off - Still running

My 2000 V-Star 1100 Clasic with 60,000+ miles had its 1st problem yesterday. I stopped to park the bike, hit the kill switch as I usually do to turn it off and it continued to run. I then turned the ignition to off and it still continued to run. I did this several times and it continued to run. I dove it home, put it into the garage hit the kill switch and it stopped as it was supposed to. I turned off the ignition switch went into the house and got a beer to think about the problem. I have no idea. Does anyone have any suggestions? I´m heading out on my yearly 5K ride in about 2 weeks and want no problems.
