You´ll have to stand the bike upright to get it under the bike. The jack itself is foot-operated and so is the release.
If you go to over-sized tires later (as in whitewalls) the jack will then slide underneath without having to stand the bike almost upright first. The jack is stable and will easily support the full weight of the bike. I elevate mine for just about everything I do to it, including washing it.
