| A xr 750 or 1000 it´s not, A good bike for a daily rider not costing too much and oh, yeah, and fun to drive. It sputters when cold, warms up usually in around 2 minutes.. The seat is hard as a rock, my ass hurt for the first week on 50 mile rides. It vibrates like a chainsaw cutting thru corragated steel at the foot pegs.. and you really can´t use the mirrors over 70.. too much vibration. You get used to all of that though. NO tach.. had to order that. I added a tall windshield, crash bars, yes crash bars, I likem! I also ordered a luggage rack and a short sissy bar... I´m waiting for my screamin eagle slip on muffler and the aircleaner kit.. hasn´t come in yet.. hope that will give me some more power and noise outta the pipes. Gas mileage... is around 45 to 40 mpg. At 1600 miles no major repairs..or minor. The first service was done free almost.... I paid for the fluids..(engine oil, filter, and oil for the clutch) i think it was the clutch...anyway..around 30 bucks. All and All for cheap bucks I got a 2003 harley that is fun to ride and gorgeous to look at ... I´m happy! my other bikes.. 1967 yamaha twin jet 100, 1979 honda 750F, 1983 or so yamaha 550 vision, 1980 something kawasaki 550 ltd, and I restored a 1970 harley davidson ss 350 sprint. Not a complete restoreration, but almost. In fact because of the sprint i did purchase the 883r model.. I didn´t want to buy a buell.. and this harley was the closest thing in the harley line up to a regular motorcycle with out being a lowrider. I paid list for the bike 6800 us dollars.. and lots for the genuine harley davidson accessories.. however, i did get a discount card for 10 percent off purchases for one year.. and I recieved a nice plaque..with the bike etched/engraved and the vin number and my name on the plaque from hd. and lots of survey cards and letters from the dealer and hd headquarters.. ps.. this model discontinued for 2004. plus the new sporsters have "rubber mounts" for the engine...and larger fuel tanks. |
