I think that effectivly people now have a tendency to go for power numbers. I got to ride the 1100 sabre and was not even capable of shifting 5 gear, To be comfy with the bike i had to ride it in 3rd gear in small country roads. I ride by sound and feeling, to feel the sabre 1100 on highway, in fith gear i had to ride between 140km/h (90mph) and 160km/h (100moh), but then wind was too noisy, eyes were watery, and cops were happy to see me. I remember that a PC800 was plenty enough for me and wife 12yrs ago. We did put weight on since but i think i will down shift more often, keep few thouthand in my pocket and go for the 750 shadow and not the 1100.
