It´s great to find a site that is specific to the ´82 FXB Sturgis. I´ve owned mine since 1991, bought it at 17,500 miles on the bike, the guy had it in storage for most of the nine years between 1982 and when I purchased it. It now has over 180,000 miles on it, several rebuilds top & bottom, new tranny (kept the 4 speed with the kicker intact), countless tires, 3 speedos and 2 tachs to date. It´s the brown and black with gold pinstriping, gold anodized rims with gold outer rim stripe, version. I still have the 1982 commerative eagle fender emblem still intact on the front fender. The bike with all the miles on it still looks pretty good. My goal someday is to purchase a new or newer bike and then restore the Sturgis back to it´s original showroom condition. I have 90% of the original equipment, seat, backrest with leather emblem, carb and original air-cleaner. What I am looking for is a set of original pipes and the 4 rocker cover bolts (the slotted type/screw driver blade type). I´m having a hard time finding those. I have two specific mechanical type questions. Does anyone have any mechanical or homegrown answer regarding leaking rocker cover bolts, specifically the front rocker cover bolt on the rear cylinder? I´ve tried just about every type of seal I can find, original and aftermarket, nothing seems to work and it keeps %!¤ing oil on my leg and battery case. I´ve been told this is common and normal to the Shovelhead engine. I wonder if there is a possible fix to this that other shovelhead owners know about? The second question is; does anyone know of a possible fix for the extreme vibration of the instrument (speedo & tach) panel when cresting about 60-65 mph. The front rubber hold-down is intact and in place. To all of you that have a Sturgis and still ride it, I salute You! You have a great bike, ride her long, ride her strong, ride her loud and definately Ride Her Proud! I hope to see some of you someday out on the highways & biways. I am from southeastern Wisconsin, a little north and west of Milwaukee. I ride all over Wisconsin and try to get to differnt parts of the U.S. each year, last year we were in NewYork City, Upstate NewYork, Niagara Falls and Toronto, Canada. This year I´m planing a trip to the NewMexico State H.O.G. Rally in Sept. If you see this plate on the road or at a bar, stop-in and say hi, I´ll buy you a drink! WI.
