2nd Gear issue

Hello all. I am brand new to this group. I recently acquired a 1979 R100RT Not having owned a BMW or any bike since 1987. My bike has approx 19k miles. I do believe the odometer to be accurate judging by the bikes condition and authenticated with the previous owners service records. My question to the group is when I shift into second gear either going up or down shifting I notice a slight grind. The other gears seem to click as they should. Although occasionally I do have a little bit of a hard time finding or locking into first from a dead stop. I don´t know if these issues are caused by me not being familiar with the BMW especially after being inactive for over 20+years , or if the bike possibly has a problem. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks
