| Have noticed a slight noticeable vibration that I think is coming from the rear tire or wheel of my Goldwing when leaning the bike to the left at an angle (any angle). Kind of like when you’re going down a highway off-ramp at 40 mph. It feels exactly like you’re riding on the edge of a knobby tire or riding on the edge of your tire on an uneven road made of bricks. I would say it’s similar to those grooves cut in the interstate highways near the shoulder that makes a big sound and you can easily feel when you run over them The vibration I feel on the bike is not near that extreme and doesn’t make a loud sound like those grooves do, but it’s similar. It’s not a shimmy type of thing. It reminds me of a studded snow tire where you can feel each stud. Riding the bike up straight or leaning the bike to the right does not ever produce the vibration. One guy I talked to on a Goldwing forum online suggested it could be a chipped bearing, but I think that would be fairly easy to see when you spin the rear wheel and it would make a distinct noise, too. I checked the tire for any bulges or damage the other night but didn’t see anything. I disengaged the clutch and applied the rear brake while the problem was happening, but there was no change. The vibration was still there. The rear tire is a Metzler and is the correct size for the bike with a lot of tread left. There is some slight cupping and uneven wear on the left side of the tire, but it’s pretty minimal. Nothing that would look like it would make a noticeable vibration you could easily feel. Not sure how old the tire is. Guess it could be old and dried out to where the tread on the left edge is pretty stiff now and when you’re riding on the tire edge you feel every inch of the tread design. Just not sure. Any help would be appreciated. |
