Manufacturers profilation: Victory motorcycles will soon have a new heart, in the form of a reworked engine, the Minnesota-based company recently revealed. Starting in 2002 new Victory models will benefit from a redesigned version of the company´s proven 1507cc v-twin. The new mill, dubbed the ´Freedom,´ makes 25 percent more horsepower and is 10 percent more fuel-efficient than the engine it replaces. An evolution of the eight-valve single overhead cam V-twin introduced in 1997, the Freedom motor features a compression ratio bump from 8.5:1 to 9.2:1, deeper fins on the cylinders and heads, and a revised cooling system. Victory´s signature 92-cubic-inch displacement remains unchanged. In addition to the mechanical changes, Victory claims that their new Visteon fuel injection and engine management system makes for easier starting, better throttle response and improved drivability. Visually, the deeper fins give the engine a cleaner, more sculpted look. The increased fin area also permits the installation of a much smaller oil cooler, – now neatly tucked in under the headstock – eliminating the unsightly oil line that snaked down the front of previous Victories.
