Review of the 2005 Yamaha XT 225:starting problems response |

I own a 2005 XT 225 and have found that the recommended starting procedure must be followed. This bike is difficult to start. | ||||||

The starting procedure on the XT 225 must be by the book. Pull the choke and hit the started briefly to clear the carb. Then hit the started again, should start. I learned start this by the book after flooding the bike by pulling back on the throttle before hiting the electric start. Since learning the proper procedure I have not had any problems. However, the bike is a bit slow starting if it has sat a while. I know it is not recommended but when I take the bike out of storage in the spring I will pull the breather cover and do one SMALL spray while hitting the starter. Make sure it is a very small amout or you risk blowing the head. Do it while the started is turning. After the bike warms and the battery is recharged the bike is ok to start. Remember, this procedure will invaidate your warrenty if things go south. Use too much spray, story over! |
