I waited 5 years before getting a Duke II and it was a mistake!

I was attracted to Dukes for a while, but was initially afraid to get one because I hadn´t owned a single cylinder bike in so long I was unsure if I could ´go backwards´ and live with one again. I´ve most recently rode Ducatis and Aprilias (currenly have an ´04 Tuono as well)and was worried the Duke wouldn´t be fast enough and/or would be too vibey for me. Wrong on both counts. This bike hauls ass! Very light and nimble, great torque allows you to squirt through traffic no problem. It is more fun than more powerful bikes in most situations because you can use all of its power with (near) wreckless abandon. With the Tuono I have to be extremely careful with the throttle but with the Duke I can slam it around, really get on it and go for it. I may not actually be going faster in a lot of cases, but it sure feels like it! The vibes are much less than I expected. The seat is miserable for longer rides and the wind blast will cause you to have a death grip on the bars if you tour on it, but that´s really not what the bike is all about. In town, it puts along at slow speeds more smoothly than a V-twin but then has the torque to allow you to leap out of traffic and exploit gaps. For commuting, city riding and just being a nut, it can´t be beat. Also, it seems like a lot of the reliability issues with the first version have been sorted out and mine has been dead reliable. It is the most fun bike I´ve owned in a long time. | |
