Review of the 2006 Aprilia Scarabeo 500 GT ABS:Great Bike |

Having come from a 250cc scooter and wanting to get a more steady ride, we looked into and purchased the Scarabeo 500 GT ABS. The 250cc scooter was getting around 63 mpg and that was a concern when thinking about a larger engine that would be more than double the horsepower. It has been a wonderful surprise when we got at least 58.5 mpg and seems to be averaging about 60 mpg with all types of driving. The one thing that we were looking for in a bigger scooter was the ability to maintain a constant speed in a hilly area with high headwinds that are often found in Oklahoma as well as producing a smoother rider. We found both of these. Without having to full throtle, we have been able to maintain 60 mph with 2 people up steep grades and into high winds. The one draw back with the stock model is the low windshield. However, that was solved very quickly with the purchase of a GIVI windshield. One other item that was of concern with a scooter is the wheel size. The 16´ wheels have been a dream in manuevering and turning in traffic. The larger wheels and the additional weight of the scooter as compared to the 250 cc model we have been riding as provided great stability in the wind. This model sits a bit higher, but for a 6´1´ man and a 5´9´ woman who both have rather long legs, the ride is good with plenty of leg room. We love this new bike! |
