I sold a £3k bike and bought this £7.5k 950SM - and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I have never had so much fun! | ||||||
What can I say - I bought one and I´ve been grinning so much it´s starting to hurt!...It was the only bike from several I test-rode that within 15 minutes of riding it I was pulling wheelies, bringing the rear round on the brakes and spinning it around in farm gateways! It´s relatively light - it´s friendly and it has soooo much power! You remember as a kid when you would jump on yur´ pushbike - how you never really thought about the bike itself, it was just there, it was part of you, you´d shoot off down the road and it easy - tugging it about as you rode it, locking up wheels, ride it side-saddle and best of all - get of it while it was still going and just let it crash...you didn´t worry about it - you didn´t worry about it doing something unexpected...it was just you and yur bike as one, having fun - well the 950 supermoto makes you feel just like that all over again! Sure, it´s an absolute beast. It´ll pull your arms off and then tease you try it once more...but your never scared of it - only excited thinking about it! The tyres stick like sh*t to a blanket, the brakes will have you stopping later and later - watch that! The engine is like a purring kitten that with a flick of the throttle lashes out like a wild cat - it´s awesome (and very exciting!). The wind resistance is no problem - I´ve had mine upto 120 mph (off road - honest) and that small headlamp deflector and those wide radiator cowls kept me firmly in control and not fighting some jet plane in a 5G spinout! The seat...ah, now...I´ve an ample bum and many years of riding bikes behind me - but...that seat...mmmm¿ Well, it´s fine for a few dozens of miles and then, ever so slowly, you begin to lose feeling below yur belt! It´s not all bad. The seat itself is a big ´V´ thing and there´s plenty of scope to change your rinding position and get the feeling back in yur butt! Soon as I find a replacement ´gel´ one though - I´m gunna get one! I´ll try to sum up this bike the best I can: It was £7,600 new (list £7995¿) and was £3k more than the next bike I tried...but still I had to have the 950SM - no contest! It is fast - no, let me re-phrase that - it´s mental! - yet you never for a single moment feel out of control or in any kind of danger. It can rip your arms out of their sockets yet happily cruise along at 60-90 mph all day. The brakes make you feel totally safe - the twin four-pot brembos on the front can be lightly squeezed to correct your progress or ´engaged´ at anytime to pull you out of warp! Besides there´s so much engine braking that most of the time you can bring things into check simply by throttling-back. It´s beautiful - It´s alive - It´s what having a bike is all about! I sold a £3k bike and bought this £7.5k 950SM - and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I have never had so much fun! In the recent film ´The World´s fastest Indian´ - the old guy says to the young lad ´You sometimes live more in 5 minutes on a motorcycle than some folks do in an entire lifetime´ - for me this just about sums up my KTM 950 Supermoto |
