I bough the ´94 883 XLH off the internet 4 years ago and then got my license. Now I belive it will be my last bike.

When I got back into riding after a 15 yr. hiatus I decided on a H-D. Given my limited budget I found a ´94 883 Hugger w/ 6K mi. for Dollars 4K. Quite a deal I thought. I learned to ride again and have since ridden it on a 1700 mi. 7 state tour, a 1000 mi. run in 22.25 hrs (Iron Butt Saddel Sore) several 400 mi trips, a 1200 mi trip to and from KC, MO and will be taking it on a 2500 mi. trip to, around, and back from Sturgis. She is 27K mi. old now and I have put a couple thousand into her for upgardes and maint. First off - change the seat. I don´t care what you change it to, Mustang, Corbin or Sundowner, but change it or you will give up on this beast before it has had a fair shake. Upgarde the air cleaner to a hi flow model and replace the rear shocks w/ Progressive 412s (HD´s if you are bigger like me) and the front springs with Progressive springs. Get a bigger gas tank so you can hang w/ the BTs. At 5´ 9.5´ and 280# I am a little big for the bike, but I have made changes that have made the bike my own. The first actual repair that will come up if it has not already been done will be the rocker box gasket change. It is a bit of a PITA for a non-wrencher like me, but it was a great confidence builder to cut my wrenching teeth on. Get the HD manual it is absolutlely neccesary. The 833, for all the girl bike and beginner bike comments you may hear, is a great bike for women and beginners, but cetainly can be a bike that will last any guy many years. Plenty of power and long haul ability. The only time she boggs down is when she is loaded with camping gear on the tall sissy bar with and extra pack in the passenger possition, with loaded up in the saddlebags in a head wind up a long steep grade. If that bothers you then get a bigger bike, but you will never have as much fun as you will on a sporty. Easy to work on, fun to ride, lots of personalization potential in the after market and will go anywhere a BT can go just better. There are alot of places me and my sporty have yet to go and we will be passing you getting there. | |
