2002 Honda Magna 50 review

Review of the 2002 Honda Magna 50:

one of the very rare, legitimate 50cc cruisers

While this is without doubt a Japanese moped, the apparent likeness to bigger cruisers is there.

This was apparently partly designed for younger riders in Japan who can only ride a 50cc for two years until 18y, when they can sit their car license. Honda, while making many reliable and unfettered scooter mopeds, have also managed to break out with a disparate and interesting lineup of mopeds to suit many riders and tastes. Here they have almost managed a decent cruiser with a tiny engine that wants to grow up to be a real bike, for riders who really should just get a motorcycle license.
I realise that it is not a feature of cruiser style bikes to have huge power outputs, but when you are talking 50cc, more should be done with this capacity. It doesn´t feel safe around town because it isn´t responsive enough standard. A lot of other 2 stroke scooter mopeds (Honda Dio SR etc) have much more power. However Scootling in Auckland sourced a few tasty performance parts from Japan that have bolted up to make the Magna a little more respectable, and even cool. I do admit that Honda has maintained its quality levels here and have done a much better job at making a little big bike than anyone, so if this is your style, go for it. And remember there is help available if you feel its underpowered.
