Back to biking after a 20 year break on the Yamaha XJ6
| |
|
I´ve just completed 600 miles on my new XJ6N after a break of nearly 20 years from motorcycling. I expected bikes to have moved on a bit since then but was still blown away by by the experience and it just gets better as I gain confidence day by day. The engine is a peach; smooth and free revving with fantastic torque delivery with alsmost no discernable vibration to be felt. The handling is light and forgiving- ideal for newbies and people like me with room to push further. Build quality is first class, making the £4500 price tag almost too good to be true. I very nearly ignored it in the showroom as I assumed it would be a good £1000 dearer! The 6 speed close ratio gearbox takes a bit of getting used to (maybe me¿)as it started off feeling a bit clonky although this has improved now it´s run in. However, It still misses first sometimes on the way down the ´box running to a stop which can be annoying. The compensating upside is a light clutch, this makes the proceedings easier anyway. The clocks are a fabulous high quality touch and the fuel guage is terrific- not always present on bikes in this class. The only other irritation is the fuel injection- it suffers from a very noticable shunt on low speed throttle shut-off. This takes a bit of getting used to and calls for some feather light control at low speeds. Apart from this, this bike gets a very deserved 9/10 from me and well worth the price tag. | |
