The xr 200 is a bullet proof machine

I have hade a 2000 xr 200 for 4 years now and I love it. For a little bike they can offer big time fun. In the past couple of years I have found out some thing that will make the xr 200 sutable for racing motocross or for out door racing. Lets face it the stock 200 has a power band like and electric scooter. To fix this I have pullet out the spark arreator/baffel form the muffler which gave me more low and mid end snap and pull. I have also pulled the snorkle out of the air box and removed the restrictive back fire screen form the air cleaner assembly. I have also hade my bike bored .40 over to make it a true 200cc. I have also found that these bikes run well on 100 ayctane gas but you have to run a hotter plug to compensate and I also run a larger gap of 35 thousands. As for jetting I kept it stock but I run the throttle needle at the third posotion from the top and set the fuel air screw at 1 to 1 1/2 turns out as I prefer it to run crisp and clean and a little on the lean side. I have also found out that these bike tend to bun oil when ridden hard and I have also found a few products that will help in keeping you bike form over heeting. First, I would highly reccomend using ´Lucas tune up in a bottle´. This product is designed to lubricate the top end while cleaning out deposits, it is a hell of a product. I would also reccomend using STP oil treatment because it makes you oil have a slightly thicker viscosity and it prevents thermal break down. As for the suspension, I have hade the front fork seels replace with Harley seals and I run a slightly higher oil level and I put 15 psi in them to make them more stiff. As for the rear I have snagged the rear suspension off of an 84 which hase adjustible compression and stroke. Well these are just a few things that can make a good bike great. Keep on riding | |
