Even thugh a stock xr 200 is a very versital bike its suspension and top end power is a little weak for motocross.

Naturally the xr 200 is an awsome enduro bike but it can also make a sweet mid sized motto cross bike with a few simple mods. First in order to gain more power you can pull out rhe air box snorkel and pull out the restrictive spark arrestor. Second getting the engine bored and honed and using an after market cam and piston will make the bike screem. I also suggest using a gas/alcohal mix of 20% by volume using at least 93 or higher oyctane can peerferably 98. Now for the suspension. On the 2002 models the rear shock is lacking in adjustments. I got a shock off of an 84 200 which utalizes the adjustable resevor with rebound settings. You can also rebuild these shock unlike the nitrogen gassers on the 2002 model. The front forkes are descent stock but if you plan on hanging some air your tire will go up into your fender. I suggest putting in a heavy buty fork seal and sealing it with silycone. You may also want to add to the oil level in the forks or use a higher viscosity oil like SAE 17 or 20. I also like to run between 18 and 21 lps of pressure in my forks which makes it feel and handle like a crf 250. To conclude with a little time and effort your xr 200 can be one bad ass machine. | |
