The 2009 YZ450f is reliable, comfortable, and user friendly for anyone new to the 450f. In 2009, Yamaha didn´t mess with their solid bike much besides a bigger real axle, updated shift forks, and a hydro molded rear swing arm. Suspension is plush and comfortable and works well in stock form. | ||||||
Yamaha has always been criticized for its poor handling and this model still does not stack up to the competition. Front end push has been my largest complaint and the bike often does not stay where you put it. Lowering the front end aids with the problem but does not resolve it. I often find myself sitting on the gas cap in fast corners or the front end wanders. Power wise, the YZ450f is a kitten. However, its power delivery is provided the most confident way and makes up for the few less HPs it has. Smooth and broad with an excellent mid range is the best way to describe it´s power band. Short shifting the yz450f is required most of the time as the power seems to drop in the upper rpms so grab the next gear and twist, it´ll pull you though! Replacing the stock silencer is a must on this machine and I could not believe how much it improved the low end pull. Yamaha´s shorty silence design with it´s restrictive inner cones is great for noise and learning but once a new silencer is on, the bike starts to feel more like a competition motocross bike than a glorified dirt scooter. This bike also feels more nimble that it´s fuel injected counter parts and the carb design and fuel delivery is more than adequate...plus easier to handle cleaning, repairs, and tuning. Overall it is a smooth, easy to handle 450 with enough power to get the average rider transitioned. Not the fastest stock 450 I´ve ridden but I would without a doubt say it is the most confident inspiring. |
