Widow Maker, what a laugh. The GT750 Suzuki, was the worst handling big-bike ever. Overweight motor compensated by underweight frame and the trail reduced drastically so that this fatso was light to handle at LOW SPEED only. Dangerous at speed. | ||||||
Changing the bars to straights, fitting taper head steering bearings and adding an extra 40cc of damping fluid to each front fork made this bike into one of the best handling machines I´ve owned bar none and I´ve owned over 30 bikes. The frame easily handled the extra power when I modified the motor to get 150mph out of the bike (9,500rpm). The bike has a low center of gravity and the steering trail is enough to promote high-speed stability even though the bikes wheelbase is on the shorter side. The frame is solid. The bad rap that the Mach IV gets comes from the H1 500 antics due to it´s light-switch power-band and rear-wheel weight bias to prevent wheel-spin, giving you wheelies instead. If you cannot afford expansion chambers, you can get a good boost by opening up every tiny little hole in the exhaust baffles. I drilled mine so that the diameter of every little hole was increased by 10% MAX. Made no difference to exhaust loudness. |
