1I bought one of the first 1986 Honda VFR 1000 ones with the sandcast crankcases, which the Essex dealer told me had been used in france for racing.It was the best bike I ever owned for enjoyment and reliability, and fantastic performance with no weak spots at all. | ||

The top-only fairing worked well, but I suffered from cold below waist when speeding long distance even with leathers and under layer. It just improved with faster use and the road balance, handling and response of chassis/brakes/suspension perfect and confidence inspiring. I had to watch fuel consumption as reserve was 20 miles. It was such a good looker and quality of finish was ok through wet use and dry storage/delayed cleaning , not suffering from corrosion. I could lay it well over, easing the power to wheels in confidence, even with no electronic devices then. The weight distribution was just right. I found the bike weight ok and the noise well down which I liked a lot. Stealthily very fast in motorway use up to 140 mph,. Landudno to Northampton every weekend in under 2 hours, sheer delight. Sold it to an oil rig worker based in Northampton who used it to commute to Aberdeen, ,told him it was utterly reliable, cried when it went out of sight. |
