A 6 month update on my 2021 Piaggio Beverly 400hpe, now with 500 kilometres on the clock, a guide to the potential new buyer or just someone interested in this machine. | ||||||
My 2021 Beverly 400 is now 6 months and nearly 5000 kilometres old, and I thought it might be time for an update on my original review. The 350 has now moved to a new owner who absolutely loves it. 90% of my riding on the 400 has been day trips with my motorcycle club of between 150 and 250ks in company with a range of motorcycles of between 600 and 1800cc capacity. It doesn’t matter whether it’s on typically rough Australian country roads or freeways I have no trouble keeping up with the bikes. The suspension is very good, and the scooters handling inspires confidence. I have not tested the top speed, but the scooter reaches 140 km/h very quickly and there is more on tap if I was to need it. The seat is more comfortable than that on the 350, and I have yet to experience numb bum syndrome. Now that I have become used to it, I find the instrument cluster excellent although I have not yet been able to successfully pair my smart phone to the MIA system (Missing In Action in my case). All in all I really like the Beverly 400 a great deal. It suits my 77 year old body perfectly, it’s quick, agile comfortable and relatively light weight, for which read easy to move around in my garage. So what don’t I like? Really nothing, except maybe that the top box Piaggio provides and the light weight Akrapovic exhaust they offer haven’t been available in Australia. It can be a bit tedious checking tyre pressure particularly the rear wheel because the 14 in rear and large disc make it difficult to reach with the gauge. On occasion I have overfilled the tank, whilst trying to get as much fuel in as possible. Not really complaints and in truth it’s a great machine. |
