in my experience if the petcock is rotated towards the rear of the bike its in prime which tends to flood the carbs and if left there too long fuel runs out the vent tubes on the bottom of the airbox leaving a puddle on the ground under the bike. normal running the petcock should be down, and forward for reserve. i have never had to use prime for more than 45sec after sitting for weeks.
