It´s not draining the battery is it? You said 14volts which is good! I dont know if the newer 250´s are like the 88-90´s but the idle knob is under the left side -- a black knob. turn that one way or the other until you are idling around 1400-1600 rpms.
If it gets to where it´s draining the battery when you are stopped then it is a faulty R/R (rectifier/regulator). If these go bad they can fry the CDI box/Spark unit
