RE: Any way to increase MPG and adding back rest, for touring?

I drive an Interceptor almost daily to and from work. Was curious about the same thing a while back. Put on my engineering hat and found that there are smaller rear sprockets that will fit, which will then slow down the rpm in all gears, which in turn will increase gas mileage. I replaced my 43 tooth rear sprocket with a 34 tooth. I can forget acceleration in 1st, it is more like 2nd or 3rd now, but 5th is like overdrive. I ended up changing the rear sprocket ratio of 2.5:1 to 2.0:1. I average 45 to 48 mpg. I push her a little so I am not a miser when it comes to the throttle, but this change really helped, in my opinion.
