RE: Harley Davidson FXRT

Sorry that my introduction message got out of order with my comment on the development of the model.
I am the proud original owner of an 84 FXRT with 95,000 miles on the odo. The bike was our only touring bike for almost 20 years and my wife and I made several trips of 4,000 miles or more. Our reliability record was pretty good until the bike got over 50,000 miles at which time I unwisely hopped up the motor (stroked to 89 CID, raised compression ratio, hotter cam, etc) and from that time I had a series of head and base gasket failures, compensation sprocket failure, and electrical and metal fatigue problems that seemed to have been caused by more vibration. In 04 I bought a BMW which is our touring bike now, but I had the FXRT motor remanufactured a couple of years ago and have taken two longish trips on the bike since then. Still having some problems, but I think they were either self-inflicted or were the result of teething problems that probably were fixed in later years. I love the bike, and like many others wish Harley would make it again with their modern running gear. Glad to see a group dedicated to this fine and rare motorcycle.
