RE: KLX oil guz.

Just keep an eye on the level. My ´96 KLX eats oil at about the same rate as yours and has 8500 miles on it. The engine seems to start developing valvetrain noise if the levels are allowed to slip in the slightest. I´ve read that API service L,J oils are bad for modern motorcycles (esp for the clutch), so I´d drop the synthetics and pick up some good motorcycle oil. I´m not a ´synthetic hater´ as I own an ´82 Ferrari that gets nothing but the most up to date Mobil 1 15W-50 synthetic maxed out with anti-friction additives, but the motorcycle gets what it needs - antiwear additives instead of anti-friction additives (antiwear additives are more prevalent in motorcycle oils, anti-friction additives are more prevalent in auto oils). You may experience premature clutch failure or slippage if you continue using the API service L,J oils due to the anti-friction additives. Anyhow, the bike just eats your current oil anyway, so why would you continue to pour in the expensive stuff and continue to risk your clutch? I use Yamaha 20W-40 in mine. Good luck. Jeremy
