If it´s any comfort, I had similar problems with my ´05 Sporty 883. I finally gave in and paid the ´Harley tax´ and switched out the exhaust (to Screamin´ Eagle IIs), the air cleaner (also Screamin´ Eagle) and had the local dealer´s service department rejet the carb. Now it runs smooth as silk, idles without a problem, and has more power to boot. It also now sounds like a Harley. I objected at first as to the necessity of doing this, but all my friends told me that it was just life in Harleyland; everyone does it. I intend to keep this bike for a while, so I´m not unhappy with the investment (I´ve also dumped other money into it for appearance and comfort items). It´s now the bike I expected it to be and it carries me and my wife everywhere we want to go, reliably and without drama. BTW, my dealership here in Santa Maria, CA is first class (good people, friendly, helpful) and their service department is excellent. Hope yours is the same.
