1971 Triumph Bonneville issues
Dave said 2004-07-25 02:46
The one thing I would be concerned with when restoring the 71 Bonneville is the lack of a tie bar between the tank halves. To my knowledge this is the only year that Triumph failed to install one and the tanks often crack & leak in the front. I installed threaded tie points and fabbed up a tie bar. The tie bar is attached to the tank with shoulder bolts and rubber mounts. If you are handy you can do it yourself, send it to Thompson Metal Finishing or use a later OIF tank. However, I prefer the bigger tank.
