The Benelli 650 twin is dominated by the muscular and agile character of it´s short stroke engine. Unlike british contempories it can be thrashed all day at or near maximum revs without fear of iminent disintergration or oil leaks. Unfortunately the penalty paid for overall robust and high quality construction is exess weight. The short wheelbase and shallow trail with high englne weight can take some getting used to but can be very effective on tight twisty roads. . With hard riding the engine is thirsty but under sustained cruising between 100 -120kmh[4000-5000rpm] fuel economy rises to a respectable 5 to 5.5 litres per 100km[55to 60mpg] This is just as well because the fuel tank only holds 12litres.The seat is thin and hard so frequent fuel stops are a blessing. Maintenance is simple; frequent oil changes are a must. . It looks great ,sounds superb, performs with gusto and is uncomfortable, but lots of fun!
